Aging and gravity may cause sagging and loosening of the eyelids. Not only is this condition extremely uncomfortable from an aesthetic point of view, but in the later stages, the sagging of the upper eyelid may reach a level preventing the opening of the eyelid.
Blepharoplasty may be performed on both upper and lower eyelids. During this procedure, the tissues around the eyes are stretched and sagging muscle tissue is removed. Age-related herniated fat tissue is also removed.
At What Age Is Eyelid Aesthetics Performed?
There is no special age group for eyelid surgery. Nevertheless, since the signs of aging of the eyelids are usually seen in people aged 30 and above, the operation is often preferred after this age.
A decision for eyelid surgery can be made following a detailed examination of vision and tear functionality.
How Long Does Eyelid Surgery Take?
Eyelid surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia. The aesthetic procedure for the upper lid takes about 30 minutes.
In some patients, eyebrows also drop due to aging. In this case, browpexy, in other words, eyebrow lift surgery and blephroplasty are performed together under general anesthesia. Such combined operations require an average of 1 hour.
Surgery for the lower eyelid is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 1 hour.
